Lutecium's International Psychoanalytic Formation Program
|
Lutecium a non-school of Lacanian/Freudian Psychoanalysis San Francisco, California
|

Lutecium offers a school of thought fundamentally dedicated to transmission in order to extend
the benefits of psychoanalysis to the widest range of clients. We are committed to diversity and
have geared our formation program to meet the needs of candidates whose time and financial
limitations would otherwise prohibit them from furthering their psychoanalytic training. We
believe that diversity and difference ignite transmission so that the torch can be fueled by
those who hold it and then pass it on. It is the delicacy and virtue of The Pass that both
preserve and revolutionize the inheritance and exchange of psychoanalysis.
The Formation Program requires personal analysis, supervised training analysis, and a
minimum of nine trimesters (45 units total) of coursework and cartel work. Candidates who
complete these requirements will be eligible to be considered for psychoanalytic certification
by the Lutecium Committee. Lutecium’s International Formation Program is an advanced
psychoanalytic training program that is progressing toward membership with Convergencia:
Lacanian Movement for Freudian Analysis.
Note: For individuals interested in pursuing registration with the National Association for the
Advancement of Psychoanalysis (NAAP), specific training requirements are described below.

Year Four and after
Candidates completing their requirements past the third year are required to attend the Community Seminar, the Immersion Course,
and one workshop each trimester.
Note: Course Descriptions are forthcoming
The Cartel
The cartel, as introduced by Jacques Lacan, is a basic structure that puts analysts to work. Four people choose each other and decide
on a theme they will work on for a maximum of two years. They then select a fifth person who serves the function of Plus One for the
duration of the cartel.
Personal Analysis
All candidates are required to undergo personal psychoanalysis of sufficient duration and frequency that will offer a meaningful
experience uniquely relevant for each analysand. Lutecium does not place restrictions on the candidates’ choice of the psychoanalyst,
so long as he or she is recognized as such.
Note: Individuals who wish to meet the eligibility requirements for registration with the National Association for Advancement of
Psychoanalysis (NAAP), will be required to document a minimum of 300 hrs of personal analysis with a certified psychoanalyst (duration
and frequency are not specified).
Control Analysis
All candidates are recommended to undergo their supervision with analysts whose work is congruent with the seminal Lacanian
concepts imparted through the Lutecium program.
Note: Individuals who wish to meet the eligibility requirements for registration with the National Association for Advancement of
Psychoanalysis (NAAP), will be required to complete a minimum of 300 hours of direct client contact providing psychoanalysis under
supervision. A minimum of 150 hours of supervision are required. A minimum of two control cases, supervised by two different
supervisors are required with a minimum of 50 hrs of supervision on each case. The remaining 50 hrs can be with either supervisor.
Supervisors must posses a minimum of five years of practice in psychoanalysis. Candidate’s personal analyst may not serve as the
candidate’s supervising analyst.
The Pass
The position of a psychoanalyst can not be achieved simply through the completion of a preset number of classes, supervision hours,
or fixed-term personal analysis alone. The Pass is a demonstration of the psychoanalytic transmission having occurred at the moment
of movement from the position of the analysand to that of the analyst. Acting as a psychoanalyst involves the psychoanalyst’s savoir
obtained through personal psychoanalytic experience which gives way to an apprehension and knowledge of desire. The self-
authorization that derives from this process is demonstrated through the contributions that candidates and analysts make to the
psychoanalytic community at large.
Lutecium's process of the Pass is a work in progress and is not as formal as the one described by Jacques Lacan. We are aware that in
the future it would be appropriate to reintroduce the process of the Pass as invented by Lacan.
Note: More information on the Lutecium’s Pass process is forthcoming.
